I was probably 60 feet or more away from the bird, so I elected to use the digital zoom to help the camera focus on the subject. What you're seeing here is a crop from the image after I reduced it to 592 x 444 in Photoshop. I chose to downsample to this size because that's approximately 2.7 times smaller than the 1600 x 1200 that the camera captures. The idea is that my downsampling will compensate for the upsampling that the camera does. I've also added some sharpening and then saved as a jpeg using Photoshop's "medium" quality setting.
